Joel T. “Terry” Ellington

Terry is a native of Cramerton, born in 1948.  His parents are: Joel P. Ellington and Alene McKeown Ellington. His parents were Cramerton residents since childhood.  His grandparents also resided in Cramerton since early adulthood. Terry is married to Jane J. Ellington since 1970.  They have one daughter, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. Terry was encouraged to become a member of CHS by several people who he has known a good portion of his life.  Initially, Terry did not think that his membership would serve any useful purpose.  As more and more of the lifelong Cramerton residents aged and passed away Terry could see that much of the town’s history was dying with them.  Terry felt that new residents were perhaps not as appreciative of the Cramerton ancestry as he is.  This became reality when he attended the dedication of the Historical Museum and saw pictures of the past that had no names for the individuals in the photos.  Terry saw many that he knew and some were of his aunts, uncles, and cousins.  As Terry called these names Doug Glenn was looking over my shoulder he said: “you need to be a member”.  Terry then thought about it more seriously and later became a member before any of his memory fades away.  Terry is proud to be referred to as a “Cramerton boy” as there are few of them left.
